In this edition: Making Fulfill-able Relationship Goals

As the new year dawns, many of us set goals an intentions for the year ahead.

But sometimes it takes stillness and reflection to know what's really going on inside us, what we really want, to make goals with staying power that we can actually carry out to completion.

In the area of relationships whether we are partnered, seeking a partner, or just open to the idea of it, a lot of us are like matrushkas, or nesting dolls.

Often our dearest desires are buried deep within, wrapped with blankets of of our fears, fog, questions, pressures, and beliefs.

Here's a little video of one of infinite possibilities of how this could look:

A Nesting Doll Metaphor

That's just one of many possibilities.

It could also look like if you're single...

  • An outer layer feeling familial or societal pressure to get married...

  • Feeling attracted to someone and imagining a life together...

  • Suddenly feeling out of shape, pressure to fix yourself to "get ready"...

  • Deciding that you're not ready...

  • Distracting yourself in a career...

  • But the "clock" is ticking...

  • Deep down, you do want to find someone, but you need to feel attractive.

Maybe the goal would be dating, and getting in touch with your own personal sense of attraction.

Or, for a couple...

Let's say they've dreamed of traveling throughout South America together.

  • But their mortgage rates just went up

  • They have pets that need extra care and they need a sitter they trust.

  • They believe it would take years to save up.

  • Maybe it's not worth it.

  • What if they have other needs come up, health issues or family emergencies?

  • They consider a compromise to travel through the US.

  • But they feel disappointed.

They realize that life is short, and they make calculated sacrifices and save up to go sooner rather than later.

When you take the time upfront to explore your deepest desires and all the other layers of objections, questions, qualms and doubts, you can "have a conversation" within yourself to make informed, realistic, and achievable goals that will feel fulfilling.

Then, once you've identified your deepest longing, you can consider the best plan of action to fulfill your goals and dreams.
