Perspective – When You Can't Make It Happen

In the dating and relating process, we're more likely to get what we want short-term. But most of us hit a wall at some point:

We get an online dating match or encounter a prospect. Then a wall of not getting a phone number.

We get a phone number, but then not a conversation.

We have a phone conversation, but then not a date.

We have a date, but then not a relationship.

The same applies in relationships:

We find so much in common, but then inevitably hit walls of disagreements.

We learn skills of compromise and negotiation, but an unfamiliar conflict or circumstance arises beyond our capacity to resolve it with our own means.

We seek outside help, but then the outside help doesn't meet our needs.

The "walls" depicted in these scenarios remind us of where our power stops and where we depend on another person or force, even a higher power, in many cases, to follow through to connect us with love and reconciliation.

Case in point: Whether or not you believe that the story of Adam and Eve is historical or mythological, it portrays a universal truism we can employ. In the story, God commissions Adam to "name all the animals". This task seems fun, or maybe boring to some. But "naming" was actually another way of saying Adam had to go on "dates" with ALL the animals. What? Yes. The text says, "But no suitable partner among them was found for Adam." That means naming animals was also a romantic mission.

So, God put him in a deep sleep. And only when Adam was completely non-operational, having apparently failed at the assigned task, God created the appropriately-designed counterpart for Adam. In fact, the partner was always part of him (his rib).

And he was thrilled!

Practical Tactics – The Art of Trusting for Delivery

This story is associated with multiple faith traditions. But it's for everyone. It applies to mundane, everyday undertakings as much as grand mystical events.

You place an order over the phone or online, then just await the delivery. You trust it will come. If it doesn't, you action again. You check with neighbors or the mail carrier. If you hit a wall, you contact the company for reshipment. You trust it will be delivered.

Like Adam, when you meet a "dog", a "snake" or an "elephant" and it's not your romantic partner, you've hit a wall. You decide what action to take next. Different dating app? Different special interest group?

Eventually, though, the delivery of your soulmate is out of your hands and you have to trust for the arrival of that incredible moment.
